Introduction

Apprenticeships have a long and important tradition in England as an excellent way to learn whilst working towards a sustainable career. The current vision for Apprenticeships in England is detailed in the report “World Class Apprenticeships: Unlocking talent, Building Skills for All “Dec 2008. The report states very clearly “ We want apprenticeships to be a mainstream option for 16-18 year olds and will ensure by 2013 every suitably qualified young person who wants to take up an apprenticeship place will be able to do so “.
